Skye 2011

Our little cottage "An Acarsaid" meaning anchorage or harbour. 

 It's very dinky and just big enough for two.

We were in the furthest north west of Skye at Upper Milovaig.

This picture window is cut out of the gable end wall. 

 It beats a giant tv screen any day.

Tucked up in the bedroom in the roof we could really hear the wind and

 the rain that beat down during the night.

The guest book at the cottage was full of people who had seen all three.

We saw nothing except maybe a bit of drift wood.

The Three Chimneys.  One of the top 5 restaurants in Scotland.

We ate there Sunday evening and it was absolutely fabulous. 

It was opened about 20 years ago by a couple with no experience, just a love of food.

Their focus is on seasonal, local food and luxury.

The restaurant is situated on the shore of Loch Dungegan at Colbost in a romantic location with heavenly sea views.

They also have rooms if you fancy a romantic getaway but you will have to book in advance and save your pennies!

Jann's cake shop in Dunvegan is not to be missed.

The exterior belies the exquisitness of the cakes.

Not to mention the fact that Jann gives the warmest welcome on Skye.

The Coral Beach.

A complete misnoma as it isn't coral at all, its dry seaweed.

Glenbrittle beach and campsite.  I'm pretty sure I stayed here about  25 year ago (gosh that makes me feel old!) after walking the Trotternish Ridge.  Lorraine, Angus, Ian or Stuart might be able to confirm this?

The islands of Rum and Canna in the distance

The Eas Mor waterfall. The literal meaning of  which is big waterfall.

Our book of walks says it's the highest in Skye but we can't find any

confirmation of this.

The Cuillins

Dunvegan Castle and gardens and home to the MacLeod clan.

Not the best house we have been to but a good day out on a rainy day.

A good venue for a pub lunch and enormous local langoustines.

There was time for a walk along Burntisland beach on the way to the station this morning. Going to work doesn't seem so bad on days like this.

MacLeod's Maidens

On our way back from Macleod's Maidens, a 10 mile walk. Tiring but very rewarding.

The Cuillin Hills

A lovely day but looking ominous as ever up in The Cuillin Hills. You will have to wait for the full postings for the pictures of the longest waterfall on Skye.

Coral Beach

This morning it was lashing it down so we headed to Jann's Cake Shop ( not to be missed but more of that later). While eating our cakes the sum came out so we headed to the beach. Look at the glorious weather now !

Leuchars Air Show

Leuchars Air Base is earmarked for closure so this might be the last ever air show.

The only remaining Vulcan bomber.

The Blades aerobatic display team.

The Red Arrows. 

Since last photographing the Red Arrows over the Firth of Forth they suffered the loss of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging at the Bournemouth Air Show.  Their display at Leuchars was the first since that accident and they paid a very emotional tribute to their lost colleague. 

It was very poignant that the position Flight Lieutenant John Egging would have flown in is very visible in this formation.
